As has been shown in [16, 24], prioritized matching is an important tool for efficient image-based localization . While one main focus of this chapter is to combine both search directions in order to increase the localization effectiveness, we are also interested in an approach that is as efficient as possible. Based on the fact that prioritized 2D-to-3D search is both more efficient and effective than prioritized 3D-to-2D matching [24], we thus decided to integrate 3D-to-2D search into our Vocabulary-based Prioritized Search (VPS) framework [24]. In the following, we briefly review VPS before explaining how to integrate 3D-to-2D search into this method.
